Eldest son of Abraham and Hagar (Genesis 16, 21). Ancestor of the Ishmaelites and, according to Islamic tradition, ancestor of the Prophet Muhammad. His reconciliation with Isaac at Abraham's funeral (Genesis 25:9) symbolizes the potential brotherhood among the Abrahamic peoples.
