Kapporet – a Tóra lambrerekinje, Dél-Németországból hímzett

Short horizontal banner hung above the ark curtain, which completes the whole. The kapporet, whose name evokes the mercy seat of the Tabernacle, features scalloped panels bordered with fringes, often adorned with instruments of Temple worship (menorah, table of shewbread, altar) embroidered in gold thread. Given as a counterpart to the parokhet by Rhineland and Bavarian communities.
