Founded around 1803 in Pressburg by Rabbi Moshe Sofer, the "Chatam Sofer," it was the most influential yeshiva of Central Europe and the bastion of Hungarian Orthodoxy against the Reform movement. Refounded in Jerusalem after the Holocaust by Rabbi Akiva Sofer.
