History register · custodian, not owner
The university library of Leipzig holds a collection of Hebrew and Judeo-Arabic manuscripts enriched by Karl Vollers and other nineteenth-century orientalists. It contains approximately 250 Hebrew manuscripts including medieval commentaries, treatises of Jewish philosophy, and Ashkenazi prayer fragments. This collection is catalogued in the Manuscripta Mediaevalia database and partially digitised. Leipzig having been a centre of Hebrew publishing (Steinschneider worked there), the library also holds important early printed books.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
