American Jewish organization founded in New York on September 4, 1900 by Yiddish-speaking immigrants from Eastern Europe (formerly « Workmen's Circle » / Arbeter Ring). Combining mutual aid and cultural action, it supported Yiddish schools, publishing, theater (Folksbiene) and concerts, remaining one of the great pillars of secular Yiddish culture in America.
