The London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) holds the archives of London's Sephardic community, notably those of the Spanish and Portuguese Congregation Bevis Marks (LMA/4521), the oldest Sephardic synagogue in England, founded in 1701. These collections — partially digitized by the National Library of Israel — contain birth, marriage, and death registers, Libros de Contas, membership and charity beneficiary lists, covering settlements in the British colonies as well. Many London Ashkenazic Jewish communities have also deposited their archives at the LMA. Access to the Sephardic collections requires written authorization from the congregation.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
