A specialized section of the Cercle de Généalogie Juive (CGJ), founded in Paris in 1984, devoted to genealogical research on Jewish families from the Maghreb and the Mediterranean basin. It maintains databases of civil registry records from the Jewish communities of Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia held at the Archives nationales d'Outre-Mer in Aix-en-Provence. The CGJ publishes the journal "La Lettre Séfarade" and has digitized thousands of Kethubbot (marriage contracts) and cemetery records from Moroccan mellahs. It collaborates with the Centre de Documentation et de Recherche sur la Culture Juive du Maroc and French and Israeli academic institutions.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
