A dependency of the educational network of the Alliance Israélite Universelle, this institution trained teachers and school principals destined for the AIU school network in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa. It contributed to the modernization and Gallicization of Jewish communities in Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, and Iraq, while maintaining instruction in Hebrew and Jewish traditions. The archives of this seminary, preserved in Paris and Jerusalem, document the training of hundreds of teachers who transformed the educational structures of Sephardic and Mizrahi communities. Its work is inseparable from the AIU's cultural policy and the diffusion of the Enlightenment in the Mediterranean countries.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
