The university library of Heidelberg, founded in 1386, holds one of the oldest collections of medieval Hebrew manuscripts in Germany, distinct from the De Rossi collection in Parma. It contains in particular biblical and talmudic codices originating from the Palatine electoral library. These manuscripts are digitised and accessible via the Manuscripta Mediaevalia portal. Their Rhenish provenance makes them an irreplaceable witness to medieval Ashkenazi Judaism.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
