History register · custodian, not owner
The National Archives of India and the Paradesi Synagogue Archives in Cochin preserve unique documents relating to the Jewish community of Cochin, one of the oldest in Asia. This collection includes copper plates engraved with royal privileges granted to the Jews of Malabar as early as the tenth century, Yemenite Torah scrolls, and archives in Judeo-Malayalam. These items constitute an irreplaceable testimony to Indian Judaism and its relations with local powers. This collection is distinct from the holdings of the Paradesi Synagogue Museum in Mattancherry and is the subject of digitization projects.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
