History register · custodian, not owner
Founded in 1982 in St Kilda, the historic district of the Melbourne Jewish community, this museum traces the history of Jews in Australia from the first Jewish convicts who arrived with the fleet of 1788. Its permanent collections cover the cycles of Jewish life, successive migrations, and the contribution of Australian Jews to the arts, sciences, and public life. The museum has an important section devoted to survivors of the Shoah who settled in Australia after 1945, distinct from the Melbourne Holocaust Museum already listed.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
