The birthplace of 1986 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel, transformed into a museum and memorial space in Sighetu Marmației (northern Transylvania). It traces the history of the Jewish community of Maramureș and documents the Holocaust in this region, from which tens of thousands of Jews were deported to Auschwitz in the spring of 1944. The site is managed by the International Center for the Study of Judaism in Romania.
