History register · custodian, not owner
Established in 1980 at the University of Cape Town through a donation from the Kaplan-Kushlick Foundation, the Kaplan Centre is the principal documentation center for the history of Jews in South Africa and southern Africa. Its archives include hundreds of oral interviews with members of the Jewish communities of Cape Town and Johannesburg, genealogical databases, passenger arrival registers from 1890 to 1930, and numerous communal collections. In partnership with the South African Jewish Museum, it leads the Jewish Digital Archive Project (JDAP), dedicated to preserving the social memory of the Jews of southern Africa. Its SA Jewish Rootsbank resources are freely accessible online.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
