History register · custodian, not owner
Founded in 1854 in Breslau through the bequest of Jonas Fränkel, this seminary was the first modern rabbinical training institution in Germany and the birthplace of the historico-critical method (Wissenschaft des Judentums). Heinrich Graetz taught there for decades and wrote his monumental Geschichte der Juden there. The seminary trained hundreds of rabbis until its forced closure in 1938.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
