Principal orchestra of Jerusalem, founded in 1936 by the Palestine Broadcasting Service as the musical wing of Kol Yerushalayim, the first radio broadcasting in Hebrew. After 1948 it became the orchestra of Kol Yisrael, then in the 1970s the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra of the Israel Broadcasting Authority, commissioning and premiering many Israeli works.
