Independent public authority in charge of Israel's archaeological heritage, established by law in 1989 (effective 1 April 1990) in replacement of the Department of Antiquities. It regulates excavations and conservation, conducts the Archaeological Survey of Israel, manages the Rockefeller Museum, and ensures enforcement of the antiquities law.
