Founded in 1997 at the University of Basel, this institute is the principal Swiss academic center for Jewish studies, with a strong orientation in religious studies, medieval and modern Jewish history, and Hebrew literature. Basel, the city where the first Zionist Congress was held in 1897, lends the institute a particular historical distinction. It offers programs from bachelor's to doctoral level and hosts international researchers.
