National theater of Israel, one of the first theaters in the Hebrew language. Founded as a troupe in 1912 in Białystok by Nahum Zemach, it moved to Palestine and settled permanently in Tel-Aviv in 1931. Official national theater since 1958, it occupies the Habima square building in central Tel-Aviv and receives the Israel Prize for theater.
