Founded in 1732 in the Spitalfields district, Etz Chaim is one of the oldest yeshivot in Western Europe and the oldest in England. It welcomed the children of Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jewish immigrants and played a decisive role in the transmission of traditional Jewish education in Britain. Merged in the twentieth century with other institutions, it contributed to the founding of Jews' College (London School of Jewish Studies).
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
